children must be taught the value of earning money

Raising a child isn’t easy, because there are a lot of things you’ll need to teach the child; good moral values, principles, discipline, self-control, etc. but above all, children must be taught what it means to earn money. Children can be spoiled; it’s quite understandable, but you shouldn’t stray too far beyond reasonable measures. It’s natural for parents to want to give their children the world and pamper them, but there should be a balance to it.

When raising a child, there are two things involved, basic necessities and wants of the child. As a parent, you must understand that your child’s needs are different from theirs wants – needs are very necessary for them to have, but want, that’s where earning comes to play. I’m not saying it’s wrong to gift your children expensive items, but it’s very important to think of the possible effect and challenges these negligible things could result to in the long run.

Have you encountered young children and teens with expensive phones? Or the latest and trendiest Dior outfit worth thousands of whatever currency. I’m not downplaying anyone for giving their children the “luxury life,” but if they get all the “toys” they want easily without breaking a sweat for it, then you’re not teaching them the value of money.

They say, “Train up your child in the way in which they should go and, when they’re old, they will not depart from it.” This principles applies to also to good finance management. Everyone should teach their children about hard work and money. The best way to do it is to make it clear that they need to earn cash on their own. This doesn’t mean that they’ll need to start sending out resume applying for a job, but there are avenues that parents must provide for their children to earn little stipends. For example, allowance or chores reward money.

There are a lot of necessary items every child requires; food, shelter, access to education and a reasonable amount of allowance. As a parent, you are mandated to provide for all these things because they constitute the child’s human right. However, the “overhead” things they ask at some point may not be necessary. The best way to teach your child about earning is by being practical, it doesn’t always have to be cash; you can start small with sweets, cookies, extra TV watch time and so on. The whole idea of teaching your child about earning is for them to get things because they deserve it or must have worked for it, and not feel entitled whatsoever.

Teaching children of all ages about the world around them isn’t an easy task, and when it comes to finances, the habits that children learn will most definitely follow them through to adulthood – you should endeavor to teach them while they’re still young. It is very important for every parent to understand that, the values they imbibe in their children will make-up for eighty percent of the type of individual they’ll become; so what kind of “man” or “woman” are you raising?
